In 1994, The Mask became a Hollywood blockbuster. In Tamil, it was dubbed as "Ilakku Varum Irukku". With Kamal Haasan starring in the lead role of Stanley Ipkiss or 'The Mask' and also co-producing the film, this Tamil version is an instant hit with all his fans.But Hollywood remade the movie into a new thing and dubbed it in Hindi as “Laaghdaar: The Movie”. As the story of The Mask (1994) unfolds, Stanley Ipkiss (Jim Carrey) is a bank teller who craves for an exciting and adventurous life. His wish is granted when he finds a magical green mask that transforms him into a hideous green monster, capable of extreme violence and guile. The Mask also gives him the power to control the minds of others and to manipulate reality itself. With absolutely no strings attached, Ipkiss uses his new powers for selfish ends, much to the chagrin of his girlfriend Tina Carlyle (Cameron Diaz)But soon he realizes that there are even more risks involved with wearing the mask than he first imagined. The Mask is a film with a difference and yet it has all the makings of a kiddie comedy, thanks to Jim Carrey's antics. The plot is simple: Boy with ordinary life comes across a magical mask and turns into an extraordinary being and the whole city bows in front of him. But along with power, greed rules his mind and everything goes out of control.
The movie starts in India where Ipkiss wins $10 million in lottery. He donates 10% of his pocket money for charity and gives the rest to his family members. His sister really likes her brother for this gesture. After winning the lottery, Ipkiss gets married to Tina Carlyle (Cameron Diaz). They visit the Niagara Falls. Ipkiss wins $30 million in second lottery and also buys a mansion. After returning home, he daily goes to play golf with his friends Daniel (Peter Riegert) and Charlie (Richard Jeni). On the way back home, Ipkiss removes his mask for some time. When his car reaches on the lawn, he accidentally damages a garden statue of a cat. He repairs it with his mask on. However, it turns into a real cat by mistake and runs away from there thinking that it is free from its cage now. Ipkiss takes off his mask once again at home but Tina catches him by surprise and thinks that he is some kind of maniac. She doesn't understand that its all because of the mask.Tina leaves for her mother's place without informing Ipkiss. On Tina's birthday, Ipkiss calls her to convey his regards but she rejects that call and informs him that she is going to live with her mother permanently. Ipkiss decides to find a job and he goes for an interview at a bank as a teller. Before the interview, he uses his mask and swears everything on it and gets selected.
